Switching Foster Care Agencies: What You Need To Know

Couple considering switching foster care agencies talking to social worker

If you’re a foster parent in Essex, Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire or Northamptonshire and you’re considering switching foster care agencies, you’re not alone. Finding an agency that lines up with your values, provides consistent support and prioritises the well-being of your foster child is essential for a successful fostering journey.

But what does the transfer process look like, and how can you make the switch with minimal disruption?

Why Consider Switching Foster Care Agencies?

You may be contemplating a switch because your current agency isn’t providing the level of support, training or resources you need. Perhaps you’re looking for an agency that shares your values and offers better opportunities for professional development. Whatever your intention, Mosaic Foster Care ensures the well-being of the children and families they work with remains the top priority.

Understanding The Transfer Process

Switching fostering agencies involves a structured process designed to maintain stability for the child in your care. At Mosaic, we follow the Fostering Network’s Transfer of Foster Carers Protocol, ensuring that each step is handled with care and professionalism. Here’s an overview of the process:

  1. Initial Discussion
Express your intention to transfer by having an open conversation with your current agency and Mosaic. Our team will guide you through the legal and procedural requirements, ensuring all necessary consent is obtained.
  1. Assessment and Paperwork
A Form F assessment and background checks will be conducted to evaluate your experience, skills and eligibility. This process involves reviewing your history as a foster carer and ensuring all paperwork is completed accurately and promptly.
  1. Coordination and Approval
Mosaic will coordinate with your current agency and the relevant local authority to facilitate a smooth transition. Once the assessment is complete, your case is presented to Mosaic’s fostering panel for approval. Our Agency Decision Maker (ADM) will then officially approve your transfer.
  1. Transition
Mosaic works closely with all parties involved to ensure the placement remains stable. We handle the negotiations, policies and paperwork so you can focus on providing care for your foster child.

To address common questions and concerns, here are some FAQs about transferring to a new fostering agency:

  1. Can I transfer if I have a child in my care?
Yes, with the consent of the local authority, children in your care can typically remain with you during the transfer.
  1. What happens to my current placed child during the transfer?
Mosaic will coordinate with your current agency to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption to the child.
  1. Do I need to go through another assessment?
Yes, a Form F assessment is part of the transfer process but Mosaic makes this as streamlined as possible using existing information as much as possible to avoid duplication.
