One of our Values is to “Go above and beyond – to adopt an attitude where creativity and adaptability are core.”
We know that having fun is really important for our mental well-being. Everyone needs time to relax and unwind; particularly in the sometimes stressful world of fostering!
This need is recognised for our foster parents and the children they care for and we are always thinking of new ways how to have fun
In 2018 we launched our Appreciation Awards for our foster parents, to acknowledge the valuable contribution made to the lives of our young people and dedication shown to our agency. They receive gift vouchers of their choice for 1, 5 and 10 years fostering.
At least once a year we organise a barbecue on the beach for our foster parents, their foster and birth children. The fostering team have fun with the children whilst the foster parents sit back, enjoy the barbecue and (hopefully) the sunshine!
There’s also the Christmas meal when the foster parents can take a few hours out to relax and enjoy each others’ company before the festive madness kicks in!
As we all know, children learn through play. This is why we hold two weekly clubs where they interact with other children who share a similar start in life.
Craft Club is all about creativity, getting messy and seeing their artwork on the walls in the office. They also make themselves a healthy snack to eat.
Walk ‘n’ Talk enables the older children to be outdoors, have space to talk and make a hot drink on a camping stove – and sometimes a hot dog!
"I’ve changed so much, I’m a nicer person and care about other people more"
Foster child – Ofsted 2019
All through the year we have lots of trips which are always well attended and the children have enjoyed boat trips, yoga, cycling, cookery lessons and days in London to name just a few! But the bowling and fish ‘n’ chip nights are always the most popular.
We also know that children like to be recognised for their achievements, no matter how big or small. So we have our Annual Awards evening and presentations are made ranging from learning to tie shoelaces, to 100% attendance at school, to being kind and helpful to others.
We also have a Talent Show where the children can show off their skills! It’s such fun and staff have even been known to take part!
